League Rules 6.1 and 6.3 address Jewelry.
Section 6 - Players’ Equipment
6.1 - Safety
A player must not use equipment or wear anything which is dangerous to themselves or another player (including all jewelry).
6.3 - Jewelry
Consistent with IFAB Law 4 for the 2026–27 season, "jewelry" is now governed under the broader category of "accessories" and is evaluated on a risk basis rather than a blanket prohibition. The standard is no longer about what the item is, but whether it is dangerous.
An accessory (including rings, bracelets, necklaces, chains, wristbands, and hair accessories) is permitted only if it is not dangerous to the wearer or any other player, and it is safely and securely covered for the duration of play. If an item is dangerous, or cannot be made safe, it must be removed entirely — covering it is not an option.
Examples of items that may be permitted, provided they are safely and securely covered:
Medical Alert bracelet, taped flat to the skin
Religious item worn under the kit and secured
Soft fabric or rubber wristband with no hard edges
Smooth wedding band, taped over
Fitness tracker worn during play, secured via a vest under the playing shirt
Examples of items that are prohibited outright and must be removed, because they are dangerous or cannot be made safe:
Earrings or studs, including taped-over earrings
Rings or bracelets with stones, prongs, or hard edges
Necklaces or chains that cannot be safely covered
Smartwatches or watches
This standard applies to all match participants, including match officials, except that a Referee's watch or other required timing device is part of their required equipment and is not affected by this rule. In all cases, the Referee's judgment as to whether an item is dangerous or has been adequately secured is final.
